About Dr Tristen Taylor

From August to November 2017, Dr Tristen Taylor will be travelling on a motorcycle (2006 Suzuki Bandit 1200S) from South Africa to Russia via East Africa and the Middle East. During the trip, he will be making a documentary on Modern Africa, taking photographs and writing a series of articles for South African newspapers: He’s been accredited by Business Day for the duration of the trip. In addition to Business Day, he currently writes for The Star, Cape Times, Mail & Guardian, The Sunday Independent and the Daily Maverick. For the past thirteen years, he has also been the spokesperson for two NGOs (Earthlife Africa Jhb and Jubilee South Africa). Tristen is currently a research fellow at Stellenbosch University.

The overall aim of Tristen’s project is to understand and publicise Modern Africa, its current development and potential alternatives. What happens to the world and the global environment will depend upon how poverty is eradicated in Africa. Furthermore, the trip seeks to illustrate what travel would be like if we stopped flying in order to reduce carbon emissions.

Sponsorship From TOMS – How We Helped

Tristen needed some decent sound gear, so Bra Abe at TOMS Braamfontein assisted Tristen with the following:

  • Zoom H4N Pro
  • Zoom APH-4N Pro – Accessory Pack
  • Zoom HS-1 – Hot Shoe Mount Adapter

Bra Abe even threw in some TOMS & Zoom t-shirts, as well as stickers & patches, just for good measure.
